MLC School Middle Years students engage in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). The MYP is a comprehensive and rigorous five-year course of study to be undertaken by all students in Year 6 to Year 10 by 2019. Students continue to follow the content of the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabuses for the Australian Curriculum while the MYP provides the framework in which it is taught. The MYP does not provide content but rather the manner in which the subjects are taught and sets international benchmarks for learning.
The MYP is designed for students aged 11 to 16 and provides a framework of learning which encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. It emphasises intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement, qualities that are essential for life in the 21st century.
The MYP prepares students to meet the academic needs equally for both the NSW Higher School Certificate and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. It addresses students’ intellectual, social, emotional and physical wellbeing and culminates in the opportunity for students to undertake an independent project in an area of interest.*

The Middle Years student group comes under the care of the Head of Middle Years who coordinates the Pastoral Care program, with the Heads of Year, for all students. The Pastoral Care team is dedicated to the students’ wellbeing, wanting to see all the students in their care walk confidently, independently and fearlessly.
Pastoral Care at MLC School provides opportunities for all students in Middle Years to make connections with each other and with their teachers and their learning, combining the academic with the pastoral in order to provide holistic and nurturing guidance.
