Mind Challenges (TOM & da Vinci)
As part of MLC School's commitment to catering for gifted and talented students the school enters Junior and Senior Teams in Tournament of Minds and Da Vinci Decathlon each year.
Tournament of Minds
Tournament of Minds is a national problem solving program that requires mixed-age teams to solve demanding, open-ended challenges from one of the following disciplines: Applied Technology, Language and Literature, Maths and Engineering, and Social Sciences.
All students who are interested in creative problem solving are invited to participate in a lunchtime club during Term 2, and the final team, selected early in Term 3, will then continue to work together independently to prepare for the New South Wales competition, held in August/September.
In the last six years, MLC School has achieved a remarkable TOM record being State Champions, National Champions and has received State and/or Regional Honours each year. This year is no different, with the Applied Technology Team being awarded Tournament Honours at the State Finals.
Da Vinci Decathlon
MLC School has competed in the da Vinci Decathlon since its inception at Knox Grammar School and approaches the 10 categories of the academic challenge with huge enthusiasm. The competition is fun but fierce with more than 35 schools competing, answering difficult questions and problems in areas such as decoding, forensic sleuthing, poetry and creative design.
Students compete in Year group teams and attend lunchtime training and preparation sessions before the New South Wales competition in May.
